Ramie fiber is a kind of excellent natural textile material,because it has an advantage of pleasantly coolness,moisture absorbency,sweat releasing and excellent antibacterial.However,due to the high degree of crystallinity,there are some shortcomings like prickle,wrinkling and poor properties of softness.In order to reduce the crystallinity of the ramie fibers,ramie fibers were treated with dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO)/tetraethyl ammonium chloride(TEAC),and the properties of fibers have been greatly improved.DMSO was used to treat ramie fibers and the method of single factor experiments were used to investigate the effect of mass percent of DMSO,time and temperature on the properties of ramie fibers.When the temperature,time and mass percent of DMSO increased the breaking tenacity of ramie fibers decreased.With mass percent of DMSO increasing,the breaking elongation increased,while temperature and time both have a different effect that the breaking elongation increased first then decreased.For the breaking rotation number of ramie fibers,it increased first and then decreased with the increasing of the three factors all.The optimum conditions were a 60? temperature,40 minutes long and 30% DMSO concentration.In these conditions the breaking tenacity of ramie fibers was 6.6 c N·dtex-1,the breaking rotation number of ramie fibers was 441 times and the breaking elongation of ramie fibers was 3.13%.Compared with the untreated ramie fibers,though the breaking tenacity decreased by 15.26%,the softening property increased by 58.06%,what is more,the elongation property also increased by 25.20%.TEAC reagents were added on the basis of DMSO treatment.The effect of time,temperature and the mass percent of TEAC on ramie fibers were studied by the method of single factor experiment.The results showed that the fiber properties were improved after the addition of TECA.The optimum conditions were a 60 ? temperature,30 minutes long,30% DMSO and 4% TEAC concentration;In these conditions the breaking tenacity of ramie fibers was 6.45 c N·dtex-1,the breaking rotation number of ramie fibers was 482 times and the breaking elongation of ramie fibers was 3.32%.Compared with the untreated ramie fibers,though the breaking tenacity decreased by 17.31%,the softening property increased by 72.76%,what is more,the elongation property increased by 32.8%.Compared with treatment in DMSO,DMSO / TEAC with a small amount of TEAC was effective,and TEAC had a synergistic effect with DMSO.In order to further optimize the process,choose the mass percent of DMSO and TEAC,temperature and time as the key factors,and a 4-factor 3-level response surface experiments were conducted.The optimum conditions were a 60? temperature,30 minutes long,25% DMSO and 3% TEAC concentration;The breaking tenacity of the ramie fibers was 6.47 c N·dtex-1,the breaking rotation number was 484 times and the breaking elongation 3.47%.Compared with the untreated ramie fibers,though the breaking tenacity decreased by 17.05%,the softening property increased by 73.47%,what is more,the elongation property also increased by 38.8%.After DMSO/TEAC treatment,the surface of ramie fibers was more smooth,the gloss became better,the fiber structure became more uniform;DMSO / TEAC treatment did not change the ramie fibers molecular structure,fibers have no reagent residue,and the crystallinity of ramie fibers decreased from 78.49% to 65.26% after treatment.In order to reduce the mass percent of the reagent,the pretreatment of the hot water of ramie fibers was studied.Hot water pretreatment can promote the ramie fibers to a certain extent and increase the accessibility of the fiber.The combination of 20% DMSO / 3% TEAC and hot water pretreatment was the best.The breaking rotation number of the treated ramie fibers was 503 times,the breaking tenacity was 6.64 c N·dtex-1 and the breaking elongation was 3.43%,though the breaking tenacity of the ramie fibers was decreased by 14.87%,the softening property increased by 80.29%,what is more,the elongation property increased by 37.2%,so the treatment effect was remarkable.
