PC/PBT is a kind of engineering plastic alloy with excellent properties and wide-used. It has good mechanical properties and can be used without deformation at higher temperatures, high heat resistance, chemical resistance and is used in automobiles, electrical and electronic devices, etc. However, the toughness of PC / PBT alloy is very low due to the lack of compatibility of PC and PBT. In order to avoid that materials burning cause more damage to human when using polymer materials,PC / PBT alloy is required to have good flame retardant. So it is necessary for the research of the toughness and flame retardant of PC / PBT alloy.In the paper, it is prepared that PC/PBT alloy with the content of different PC, to research the impact on the properties of PC/ PBT alloy. The results shows that the mechanical properties of the alloy is improved when increasing of PC content, especially notched impact strength with a significantly rise, but melt index is reduced. PC/PBT alloy with the content of 70% of PC was selected for the research of toughness and flame retardant. Three different toughening, MBS, S-2001, ASA resin, was used for the PC/PBT alloy and its impact on the properties of PC/ PBT was compared. The results show that the toughness PC / PBT / ASA alloy has a little upgrade, while MBS and S-2001 have significant effect on PC/ PBT alloy, the notched impact strength increases more than 1 times, but its tensile strength and flexural strength has a certain decline. The performance of PC / PBT/S-2001 alloy is better compare to MBS and ASA resin. The different content of S-2001 is added to the PC/PBT alloy. The results shows that with increasing the content of S-2001, the toughness of PC / PBT alloy is also rising, when the content of S-2001 is 12wt%, the notched impact strength increases 13 times, reaching 58.7 KJ/m2. The compatibility PC / PBT alloy system is improved with the increase content of S-2001, through DSC tests and SEM tests.Two kinds of flame retardants, bis-tetrabromophthalimide(BT-93W) and bisphenol A di(phosphate phenyl ester)(BDP), is added to PC / PBT alloy and it is got that PC / PBT/S-2001/BT-93 W and PC / PBT/S-2001/BDP. The result shows that the flame retardant of PC/PBT alloy has a good increase with the addition of BT-93 W and BDP, the amount of BDP is less than that BT-93 W when the alloy have the same limit oxygen index(LOI), BDP has a little influence on the mechanical properties of the alloy than BT-93 W, the notched impact strength fell 13.8% when the content of BT-93 W reach to 20 phr. BDP composite has a good performance compare to BT-93 W.
