Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing(WAAM) uses the electric arc fuse technology to complete the process of forming metal parts. Compared with other metallic additive manufacturing technology, WAAM has several advantages, such as high efficiency, low cost and high density of forming pieces. Thus, WAAM has attracted a wide range of attentions and investigations. However, simply WAAM is difficult to ensure the accuracy and the surface finish of the forming pieces, which prevents their further development and application. In this paper, WAAM combined with milling process is used to improve the accuracy and the surface finish of the forming pieces, specifically path planning method of the WAAM combined with milling process and its applications have been studied.Firstly, considering the characteristic of the WAAM combined with milling process, a new compound path planning method has been proposed, and a new program of WAAM combined with milling process is designed, which lay the foundation for the software development and the building of the experimental platform.Secondly, based on the compound path planning method, a software applied to the WAAM combined with milling process has been developed, and the main function of the software is to automatically generate NC code to achieve a composite milling cooperative control machining process.Then, an experimental platform of WAAM combined with milling process has been built, and the NC codes of single road shell body model and no within cavity convex entity model generated by the software are applied to the forming experiment. And the WAAM combined with milling process is confirmed effective to improve the surface accuracy of forming pieces, and the experimental results also reflect the usefulness of the compound path planning method and the practicality of the software.Lastly, the thesis is summarized, and the future research is prospected.
