Hydrogel is one kind of cross-linked polymer network system,which possesses different ratios of hydrophobic groups and hydrophilic groups.Water molecules combine with hydrophilic groups to make water molecules stored in the internal network.Hydrophobic groups swell in the water.Therefore,a certain shape of the gel has been formed.Hydrogel is a kind of high water absorbtion and high water conservation material,which widely used in industrial,medical,health,agriculture and other fields.Note that the different needs to choose the different raw materials,the different polymer materials applied in different fields.Heavy metal pollution is an important part of environmental pollution.There are a lot of heavy metals in industrial wastewater of the metallurgy leather,printing and dyeing.which large emissions,long treatment period,serious impact on the environment.Chitosan hydrogel and its derivatives has the characteristics of abundant resources,environment friendly and adsorption efficiency,which widely used in water treatment.The chitosan hydrogel quickly become a hot spot in the separation field as a kind of new type polymer adsorption materials,because it has the dual advantages of gel and various functional groups.In addition,it is easy to introduce functional groups to chelate or electrostatically adsorp heavy metal ions and has a large surface area and a higher adsorption rate for heavy metal ions.According to the above consideration,The chitosan/ploy?SSS-HEMA-AA?hydrogel was prepared by one-step process in aqueous solution with Chitosan as materials,sodium p-styrene sulfonate?SSS?,hydroxyethyl methacrylate?HEMA?and acrylic acid?AA?as co-monomer,potassium persulfate?KPS?as initiator,glutaraldehyde as crosslinking agent.Polymer network structure contains a large number of radical group,such as-SO32-,-NH2,-OH,-COOH and so on.Metal ions can be adsorbed by electrostatic adsorption,ion chelating and formation of ion pairs.We can predict that the hydrogel has high removal efficiency for copper ion in equeous solution.The molecular structure and internal morphology of the chitosan/ploy?SSS-HEMA-AA?hydrogel were investigated by FT-IR and SEM.The effect of SSS content on the adsorption capacity for Cu2+and the amount of glutaraldehyde on the swelling rate of water absorption was studied by TGA and EWS.The results showed that the prepared chitosan/ploy?SSS-HEMA-AA?hydrogel was three dimensional crosslinked network structure,its adsorption capacity for Cu2+increased with the increase of SSS content,and its swelling rate of water absorption decreased with the increase of the amount of glutaraldehyde.
