As mass transportation at atomic scale, diffusion plays a fundamental role in many important progresses, such as,distribution of the solute elements during solidification. The sliding cell technique was used to measure inter-diffusion in molten Ce-Al alloys and molten Ce-Al-Cu alloys in this work.In the diffusing experiments of Ce-Al alloys,we applied this method to the Ce-Al system over a range of isothermal time at three temperatures. The plots of diffusion constants decline sharply at the beginning and then grow up slowly.According to the progress of experiments, this behavior shall be related to sliding and cooling progress during experiments. We put forward an empirical equation between inter-diffusion coefficients and isothermal times to eliminate the effect of cooling and sliding and obtain more accurate coefficients.Through correctting the data obtained by other researchers,we find that this equation is also applicable for correcting data got from other binary alloys. In the diffusing experiments of Ce-Al-Cu alloys,we measured the coefficients over a range of isothermal time at 830 K.In this work,we applied chi-square fitting in fitting and calculating the data, and got the inter-diffusion coefficients successfully. The applying of chi-square avoid the onerous work in traditional methods like “diffusion path” and “square root diffusivity”.We compared the coefficients and glass forming ability in ternary and binary alloys to explore the relation between them.
