Fe-based amorphous alloys possess good mechanical properties, unique soft magnetic,a good corrosion resistance and glass forming ability(GFA),which is considered to have potential engineering applications as structural, functional and environmental protection materials. Therefore,to improve the glass forming ability(GFA),soft magnetic properties, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance is a very important topic in the field of study. In this work,we present experimental results about the effects of Mo element on glass-forming ability, thermal stability, mechanical properties,auti-corrosion and magnetic properties in a Fe-B-Y-Nb bulk metallic glass.Utilizing industrial Fe-B alloy as raw materials,a new series of Fe-based bulk metallic glasses[Fe71.2B24Y4]96NbxMo4-x(x=0,1,2,3)have been manufactured. The GFA,magnetic properties, mechanical properties, hardness and corrosion resistance were investigated by X-ray diffractometer(XRD),Synchronous thermal analyzer(STA),vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM),CMT5105 universal testing machine, microhardness tester and electrochemical workstation. The experimental results show that,When the Mo content reaches 2 at%,the GFA reaching a critical diameter of 6 mm,and continue to increase Mo element the GFA can also achieve 5mm.Which is improved greatly than the original Fe-B-Y-Nb system Fe-based amorphous.Through the compression experiment we found that with the increase of the quantity of Mo from 0 to 3 at%,the fracture strength of as-cast BMGs increases from 3530 MPa to 4000 MPa.Microhardness test illustrates the highest hardness is endowed to the BMG with 2 at% Mo content, and the microhardness is higher than the Fe-B-Y-Nb system Fe-based amorphous. This suggests that added the Mo element can improve the hardness of Fe-B-Y-Nb Fe-base amorphous. We used electrochemical workstation analyzed the corrosion resistance of [Fe71.2B24Y4]96Nbx Mo4-x(x=0,1,2,3)Fe-based amorphous in 3.5%Na CL,1 mol/L HCL and 0.5 mol/L Na OH.We found that that the corrosion resistance increase with the increasing of Mo content. However, there is no considerable or consistent promotion in magnetic property. This research use low-cost industrial raw materials, improve the Fe-B-Y-Nb Fe-based amorphous formation ability, mechanical properties, hardness and corrosion resistance by adding the increase of Mo element.Opened a good prospect in application in the future.
