Existing batch distillation could get slop cut and only get either light or heavy products with high purity during the operation. This paper put forward a novel distillation operation mode--pulsed semi-continuous distillation according to the conventional batch distillation and continues distillation. In this paper,a distillation device was designed to complete the process. In the pulsed semi-continuous distillation device, two accumulation drums were set at both the top and bottom of distillation column, which can realize the pulsed feed and production by changing valves and make the whole process become semi-continuous.The pulse semi-continuous distillation is carried out according to the cycle and each operation could be divided into two phases, total reflux and feeding, filling drum without reflux.Compared with common batch distillation, the pulse semi-continuous distillation had many advantages, including get light and heavy products with high purity meanwhile, higher throughput, process is easier to control and higher separation efficiency. In this paper,a rigorous math model was proposed to describe the novel operation mode. The model equations are consisted of MES equations.By Matlab programming, the model was simulated and the dynamic concentration data of the drums at both top and bottom of the column were gotten.Besides, the influence of different parameters was also investigated. At last, the operation mode pulsed semi-continuous distillation experiment was conducted using n-propanol-isopropanol system. The experiment result agreed quite well with the simulation data, which confirmed the feasibility of the operation mode of pulsed semi-continuous distillation.
