Zinc acetylacetonate is an organometallic salt compound with a special ?-diketone structure. The thermal decomposition mechanism of zinc acetylacetonate is very complicated. The existence of a small amount of water affects the decomposition degree of zinc acetylacetonate and the morphology of zinc oxide. In this paper, the decomposition mechanism of the two acetylacetone complexes and the luminescent properties of the product under different conditions were studied by comparing the thermal decomposition products of gadolinium acetylacetonate and zinc acetylacetonate.A simple process preparation of novel organic-inorganic hybrid luminescent materials to carry out basic research has important theoretical significance. The main work is as follows:Firstly,a novel Gd?OH?x?C5H7O2?3-x?x = 0-3?rare earth luminescent material was prepared by solvothermal method using diphenyl ether as solvent and gadolinium acetylacetonate hydrate as raw material. The sample exhibits only a single peak emission with the low reaction temperature which is due to the fact that only a small fraction of the acetylacetone group is replaced by a hydroxyl group. With the increase of temperature, the sample exhibits two emission peaks which are due to the fact that majority of the acetylacetone groups are replaced by hydroxyl groups, resulting in changes in the coordination number of the sample change further leads to disruption of forbiddentransitions electronics. The product produced at 160 oC possessed higher fluorescent intensity. And Gd-S-160 sample is a paramagnetic luminescent material.Secondly, the mixtures of ZnO with hexagonal wurtzite and Zn?CH3COO?2 were prepared by a solvothermal method using diphenyl ether as solvent and zinc acetylacetonate monohydrate as raw material. The pure phase of ZnO was obtained when the reaction temperature was 170 oC.The metal-doped R-Zn-170 samples were prepared by introducing iron acetylacetonate, europium acetylacetonate and gadolinium acetylacetonate into the reaction system of zinc acetylacetonate with the same reaction method at 170 ?.The effect of doping metal ions on the properties of R-Zn-170 was investigated. Results show that the addition of little amount of metal ions not only influence the type but also the size of product. The doping of iron ions decreases the luminescence intensity of the R-Zn-170 sample, while Eu ions doping favors for the violet emission in R-Zn-170 sample, and for Eu-doped R-Zn-170,the emission spectrum exhibits peaks in the red range, which are attributable to the 5D0?7FJ?J = 1,2,3,4?transitions of the Eu3+ ions. The doping of gadolinium ions increases the luminescence intensity of the R-Zn-170 sample. Finally,on the basis of the above studies, the mechanism of the thermal decomposition of zinc acetylacetonate and gadolinium acetylacetonate was proposed.
