As the lightweight materials in automotive, aircraft and ships, are widely used, the traditional connection methods have not meet the need of metal and non-metal connection. However, adhesive bonding technology not only has good connection performance, also with high resistance of fatigue, corrosion protection as well as good sealing. So the study on adhesive bonding technology will be a new research hotspot. The bonding process of Al/CFRP single-lap joint was investigated in this paper.Main research contents and results are as follows:(1)Using experiment to study the influence of bonding process parameters, such as adherend surface treatment, curing process and adhesive fillet, etc. The results show that joint bonding strength decreased with sandpaper coarsening because aluminium alloy surface after treatment leading bad adhesive wetting condition. The best curing temperature and time were confirmed which is important for adhesive work.Adhesive fillet can strength adhesive joint, but if the adhesive is very thin, the reinforcement effect is not obvious.(2)According to the cohesive zone model to comparatively study the mechanical properties of Al/CFRP joint with or without microgrooves on substrate.Verified that aluminium alloy surface with microgrooves can effectively strengthen bonding joint.Along lap width direction the groove adhesive stress has the similar status and bonding strength increase linearly with lap width increased.Lap length obviously affects the overall adhesive stress, however, the impact on the end is smaller.Bonding strength increases nonlinearly with lap length.Besides, increasing lap width rather than lap length to joint reinforcement is more effective.(3)To study the effect of microgroove morphology characteristics on aluminium alloy surface, including groove depth, width and angle,on adhesive joint stress distribution, joint bonding strength and joint fracture morphology. The results show that as groove depth and width increase, the bonding strength, peel stress and axial stress will increase. For groove angle, the joint with 45°groove on aluminium surface has the highest bonding strength and uniform stress distribution. And joint with 90°groove has the most weak bonding strength and local stress concentration is obvious.(4)To analyze the bonding strength and damping property of Al/CFRP/Al with micro/macro grooves on aluminium alloy surface by experiment. The results show that micro/macro grooves on Al surface can effectively strengthen the bonding strength and with no negative effect on damping performance.
