Dip-coating is a facile method for fabricating polymer coatings and has played an important role in scientific research.Highly ordered honeycomb-patterned porous films prepared by the breath figure method have regular structure and uniform pores, showing potential applications in filtration membranes, templating materials and cell culture substrates.Polymer coatings can endow honeycomb-patterned porous films with novel functions. Here,we used honeycomb-patterned and pincushion-like films from PS-b-PDMAEMA as substrates and investigated the wettability and adhesion property of the surfaces.Furthermore, inspired by the adhesive composition in walnut husks,we report a method to form brand new polymer coatings using juglone. Our specific studies are demonstrated on the following aspects.(1)Highly ordered honeycomb porous films are prepared by the breath figure method, and pincushion-like surface structure is obtained by simply removing the top surfaces of the honeycomb films. The adhesive force of water droplets on the above-mentioned films can be adjusted in a wide range.Furthermore, applications such as water transportation, manipulation and chemical reaction monitoring are conducted on the corporation of these two types of surfaces. The method presented here is facile,energy-efficient,and can be conducted on large scale for the preparation of superhydrophobic surfaces with high contrast adhesion patterns.(2)We demonstrated that juglone,a natural product from walnuts with single phenolic hydroxyl group, can form coatings on various types of surfaces including polymers, noble metals, metals with native oxide surfaces except for mineral surfaces(i.e.,mica,quartz).The deposition behavior of juglone can be well-controlled,ranging from selective to non-selective deposition,by the introduction of specific co-deposition molecules to mediate the interaction force between coating precursors and targeted surfaces. It is the first time to propose the control on the coating capacity of a naphthoquinones with single phenolic hydroxyl group, which expands the toolbox for engineering new natural products with special properties.
