According to the mechanism of melt grafting,EPDM-g-MAZn ionomers were prepared with monomer Malay acid zinc(MAZn)and initiator dicumyl peroxide(DCP).The orthogonal design optimization method was used to analysis influence of the factors systematically,such as monomer concentration,initiator concentration,the reaction time and temperature on grafting rate of EPDM-g-MAZn.FITR structure characterization and torque-time curve were also used to give further demonstration.The influence of EPDM-g-MAZn as an interface modifying agent on the properties of TPO/Mg(OH)2 composite system was studied.Furthermore,the influence of particle sizes and dosages of Mg(OH)2,carrier types and the grafting rate and amount of EPDM-g-MAZn on mechanical properties,flame resistance,thermostability and rheological properties of TPO/Mg(OH)2 composite system were discussed.The grafting rate of EPDM-g-MAZn ionomer was maximum when monomer concentration was 20%,reaction time was 6 min and reaction temperature was 200?;FITR and torque-time curves shows that,grafting reaction took place between MAZn and EPDM;the research on structure and properties of TPO/Mg(OH)2 composite system indicate that elongation at break,tensile strength,oxygen index of composite system can reach 574%(87.7%of pure TPO),4MPa(increase of 23.5%than pure TPO),27.0%(increase of 50%than pure TPO),respectively,when Mg(OH)2 particle size of 5000 mesh,as the carrier of EPDM,from the amount of ionomer is 9 phr(100 parts by weight of Mg(OH)2,the same below),the graft yeild 12%,TPO/Mg(OH)2 mass fraction than 100/100 and master batch method.Moreover,vertical combustion level of the composite system can reach V-0,without smoking and no droplet.The temperature corresponds to the main peak value of TGA is higher than that of pure TPO.Therefore,the composites meet completely the various kinds of performance indexes of TPO as flame retardant material.
