Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene(ABS)is a kind of engineering plastics and has a lot of excellent properties,such as heat resistance,chemical corrosion resistance,impact resistance,etc.Moreover,ABS also can be electroplated,hot-pressed,sprayed metal on its surface,and other secondary processing.Those all make it has wide applications.The application scope will be enlarged,if the ABS surface modified to be self-cleaning that like a lotus leaf with the condition that not change its nature superior.In the research we used the sol-gel method and chemical precipitation method to prepare nano-SiO2 powder,and attached to the surface of ABS in the same time.Adding silane coupling agent KH-550 to the solution,a surface like lotus leaf that nano structure combined with micron structure will be generated on the ABS.Further studied the factors which influence the hydrophobicity of ABS surface.It will influence the modification result that chemical etching the surface of ABS,different adherent method,the size of SiO2 microspheres grafted to the surface of ABS,dosage of KH-550,the drying time,etc.In the preparation of SiO2 microspheres in different particle size,by changing the concentration of ammonia in sol-gel method,and by changing the pH and the concentration of SiO32-in chemical precipitation method.XRD,FT-IR,SEM,contact angle measurement instrument were employed to study the modification result on the ABS surface.From the experiment some conclusions were obtained:the SiO2 prepared by sol-gel method is amorphous spherical,has uniform particle size,and easy to control.The chemical precipitation is bad control,the SiO2 particle size is larger,and KH-550 hydrolysis fast in the solution,which make the modification effect is not ideal.Many pits appeared on the surface of ABS when etched by chemical roughening,and increased with the etching time,the SiO2 adhesion amount decreased with the etching time.The average diameter of the pits is 0.14?m.The SiO2 adhesion amount will increase dramatically,when the KH-550 added into the solution to prepare SiO2.In the process of ABS surface modification,the result of sol-gel method is best;the contact angle of ABS changed with the SiO2 size,expended first and then reduced;the longer the etched time is and the more the KH-550 is,the better the hydrophilicity is;the longer the drying time is,the greater the contact angle of modified ABS surface is;the surface can changed from the super hydrophilic state to super hydrophobic state.
