In cement production,the most important thing is the strength of clinker.If the strength of produced clinker is high it will certainly improve the core competitiveness of cement enterprises.So,it is necessary to study the method to improve the strength of cement clinker.The major provider of cement clinker strength is Tricalcium silicate(C3S),which content is the high or low,and which crystal form have a great influence on clinker.So,the property of C3S is a decisive factor for the quality of cement clinker.This paper study a lot of Portland cement clinker produced by different enterprises,and coMPare the strength of cement clinker above 60MPa(28d compressive strength)with the strength of cement clinker under 55MPa(28d compressive strength),which focus research on the structure and morphological characteristics of C3S in order to find the character of high strength clinker.(1)By means of chemical and XRF analysis,it can find that the high strength clinker contain ZnO,P2O5 and other trace elements while in the low strength clinker is contain more harmful elements.It has no effect on improving clinker strength.(2)By means of XRD and Rietveld refinement method analysis,it can find that the main factors that affect the strength of Portland cement clinker is not the content of C3S,but the crystal form of C3S.In the high strength clinker the crystal form of C3S is mainly M1,and the ratio of M1 form of C3S with M3 form of C3S is more than one.(3)By petrographic analysis,it can find that the length-diameter ratio is more large(L/B>2)in the high strength clinker,and the crystal edge of C3S is more obvious and mostly emerging hexagonal plate and containing obviously girdle structure.This paper also discusses the effect of trace elements ZnO on burning Portland cement clinker and the crystal appearance and micro structure of C3S,in order to demonstrate trace elements have the advantages of Portland cement clinker.The result showed that better burnability of cement raw meal doped with defined content of ZnO is observed.Obviously,the absorptivity of f-CaO at low temperature is higher than that of industrial raw meal without mixing with ZnO.With the incremental dosage of ZnO in mineral compositions at different sintered temperature,the content of alumino phase is reduced;the dosage of ferrite phase is increased,the content of C3S(tricalcium silicate)is gradually increased.When the dosage of Zno is 1.5%at 1450?the phase of C3S is transformed from M3 to M1.It can be seen from petrographic of sample clinkers after sintered at 1450 ? that with the contents of ZnO in raw meals adjust the crystal appearance to attain good micro structure of clinker.
