The pursuit of natural flame traces is an important direction in the field of contemporary woodfire.Simon Levine is one of American contemporary experimental wood-fired ceramist,he has long been concerned about the construction and firing of wood kiln.Water-like flame traces is the main feature of his works.The research of the cause of wood fire marks is the main body of this paper.Through the reading of Simon Levin's data and the analysis of his works,this research has collected many mattrial including the participation of building and designing woodfire kilns.The type of kilns,the movement of fire,the loading of kiln,firing process and mattrials,are all affect the woodfire marks.This research benefits contemporary woodfiring and ceramic art creation.
