With the wide application of radiation technology in various fields,the problem of radiation protection becomes more and more obvious.Compared with the traditional protective material,the polymer based radiation protection material has the characteristics of light weight,easy molding and excellent mechanical properties.EPDM has low density,high filling,aging resistance,corrosion resistance,elasticity and as a radiation protection material;taking into account the possible harm to human body and lead elements,inorganic powder and rubber matrix compatibility problems.The selection of Pb(AA)2 and Poly-Pb(AA)2 powder as filler,EPDM as matrix.This paper studied the effects of different processing methods on mechanical properties,EPDM composites radiation protection performance,while the radiation resistance and in situ polymerization mechanism was explored,to provide data support for the radiation protection materials industry,the results show:Three kinds of processing methods,including polymerization-mixing,mechanical mixing-polymerization and solution mixing-polymerization were used to prepare composite materials.The tensile strength of S-100 composite made by solution mixing-polymerization reached 2.64 MPa;The tensile strength of S-100 composite made by mechanical mixing-polymerization reached 2.53MPa;polymerization-mixing S-100 composite only reached 2.38 MPa.The tensile strength of the three kinds of composites increases with the increase of powder content,and the mechanical properties of the composites prepared by solution mixing-polymerization method are better than that of the composites prepared by mechanical mixing-polymerization and polymerization-mixing methods.The mass attenuation coefficient of the composites increases with the increase of the powder content and decreases with the increase of the X-ray energy.Polymerization-mixing preparation of the 2 mm thick S-100 composite with the 105.31 Ke V mass attenuation coefficient can reach 1.498cm2/g,mechanical mixing-polymerization preparation of the 2 mm thick S-100 composite with the 105.31 Ke V mass attenuation coefficient can reach1.582cm2/g,solution mixing-polymerization preparation of the 2 mm thick S-100 composite with the 105.31 Ke V attenuation coefficient can reach 1.598cm2/g.Compared the mechanical-mixing polymerization processing method of composite with pure EPDM after vulcanization.different irradiation dose(0,30,100,160,220 k Gy),irradiation and explore composite in air,the results show that the composite material has a lag for irradiation;characterization the mechanical mixing of different curing time of polymer composites,the results show that the acrylic acid lead in three EPDM matrix “dissolution-diffusion polymerization-phase separation” reaction process,and ultimately the formation of nano composite materials,and made by in situ polymerization mechanism.
