Carbon hybrid nanomaterials possess broad application prospectsin many fields such as electroanalysis, catalysis, biology, medical diagnosis and photoelectromagnetic area, owing to the fascinating physical and chemical properties arising from the diverse structure. In this dissertation, amorphous carbon and noble metal nanoparticle are simultaneously prepared in one step by simply mixing aqueous solution of noble metal precursor with ethylene glycol and diphosphorus pentoxide to form noble metal/carbon nanocomposite(Ag/C,Pd/C and Pd-Pt/C).Amorphous carbon is originated from the carbonization of ethylene glycol, which is promoted by the heat from the reaction of phosphorus pentoxide and water, while noble metal precursor is reduced to noble metal nanoparticles. The nanocomposites are examined by transmission electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction technique,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electrochemical measurements. The fabricated Ag/C hybrid exhibits well-performed sensing behavior towards hydrogen peroxide reduction with a detection limit of 0.1 ?mol/L.Besides,the prepared Pd/C and Pd-Pt/C nanocomposites show enhanced catalytic activity towards the electrooxidation of methanol, ethanol and formic acid, and may be applicable in direct alcohol fuel cells.
