Floating drilling devices or Semi-submersible platform are mostly used to drill in the deep-sea oil development. There will be various harsh environments in drilling process, which can cause the heave motion of drilling platforms. The heave motion need to be controlled to ensure the safety of drilling process.Considering the existing compensation systems, this paper presents a scheme of small hook block semi-active heave compensation. This semi-active heave compensation combines the features of active and passive systems, which has better performance and lower energy comsumption. And a kind of extended-range organization is added to this system, which can cut off the piston rod displacement to half of platform displacement. This extended-range organization can reduce the volume of the cylinder. This paper completes the design of hydraulic cylinders, accumulator, and other major structural parameters, and selectes the control elements, such as pump and valve. This paper sets up the mathematical model of the system, and draws 3D model using SolidWorks.Based on the 3D model, this paper completes the simulation and analysis using Matlab,ADAMS.With ADAMS users can see the movement of system during simulation. The simulation curves show that the performance of this compensation system is good and it can meet the requirements of compensating property and energy consumption. This paper also completes the parameters characteristic simulation, the curves show that passive system has a good improvement, and semi-active system has a better performance. This paper also compares various simulation curves by changing the parameters, analyses the curves of hook displacement, pressure of hydraulic cylinder, drilling pressure and energy consumption,in order to optimize the structural parameters and improve the performance of the system. These results are references for the study of hook block semi-active heave compensation system.
