In recent years,metamaterials have become a hotspot in artificial electromagnetic structural materials.The metamaterial is a kind of artificial structural material that can exhibit the electromagnetic properties that natural materials do not possess.Metamaterials with phase modulation are used in a variety of microwave devices to improve their functionality.This kind of material has good ability to control the phase of electromagnetic wave and can be used to construct low cost and versatile beam control devices.It can be applied to electromagnetic wave field to realize beamforming,polarization conversion,reconfigurable antenna,beam scanning device,Multi-function antenna and other functions.In this paper,we focus on the development of dynamic beamforming in subwavelength dynamic phase modulation.Based on the research of current phase modulation metamaterials,two parts of the research work are carried out.The transmission phase modulation metamaterials and reflection phase modulation metamaterials are designed respectively,and the beam handling ability and potential application value of the materials are studied.According to the modulation mechanism of electromagnetic phase of sub-wavelength artificial structure material,an ultra-thin phase modulation metamaterial is designed by using two kinds of dynamic components such as varactor diode and PIN diode.Varactor diodes and PIN diodes are used to achieve180 ° phase continuous control and 0 °,180 ° two phase digital control,respectively.Two dynamic components can work together to achieve 360 ° phase continuous control.This material is integrated with the patch array antenna to construct a low profile electronically controlled scan antenna,which achieves a beam scan of ± 60 °at both the electric field and the magnetic field.According to the 1-bit digital metasurface,we design a 2-bit digital metasurface which can produce 0 °,90 °,180 °,270 ° four reflection phase.Compared with the1-bit digital metasurface,the two-bit digital metasurface is more flexible in controlling of the phase of electromagnetic wave.Therefor the beam control capability can also be dramatically improved.The phase distribution of this two-digit digital metasurface can be controlled by programmable power supply.The presented metasurface can be used to construct dynamic multi-beam reflectionantenna and dynamic multi-function material with adjustable radar cross section.
