In this paper,nano silica,polymers and trace graphene have been used for the modification of epoxy resin and structural characteristics and mechanical properties of the resulted composites were investigated.Nanosilica / epoxy resin was prepared by mechanical ball milling method.It was found that the lattice structure were changed after milled.The resulted nano silica play an interesting role in the composites,which improved the impact toughness of epoxy composite materials by 259% with the content of 75 ppm,and other mechanical properties(such as Young's modulus,tensile strength,thermal properties)were not sacrificed.Two kinds of polymer-PMMA and PS have been used to blend with epoxy resin to prepare the composites via solution mixing technique.The mechanical properties of the composites were studied,and the structure and other properties have been characterized by DMA,DSC,SEM,and ect.The epoxy composites with mechanically prepared graphene(G5)was prepared via ball milling techanique,and content of G5 added for the best mechanical properties was found at 5ppm.It is found that with this tiny addition,the impact toughness of G5/epoxy composites increased by 100%.Using the above composite,the short glass fiber / epoxy composite materials was fabricated,and some fators were investigated,such as the use of silane coupling agent,the length of glass fiber,and etc.And finally the graphene / short glass fiber / epoxy composites were prepared and characterized,and it found that the trace graphen play the bonding role which increased both the impact strength and the tensile strength.
