Surface texturing is a new research area to improve the tribological properties of materials. In this paper, dimple texturing on bronze specimen surfaces were fabricated with laser surface textured and drilled surface textured methods.Wear tests were carried out on friction and wear tester under dry and lubricant friction conditions, respectively. The wear mass loss and friction coefficients of three specimens were compared. And the worn surfaces were observed and analyzed. The tribological properties and wear mechanism of three specimens were studied.Experimental results show that the wear processes of specimens under light load can be divided into three periods, namely, mild wear regime, transition period and severe wear regime.Shrinkages, porosities, cracks and inverse segregation in the heat affected zone will result in material softening of laser dimple edges.Material softening can aggravate the adhesion, and cause the destruction of oxide layer easily, shorten the duration of mild wear regime of laser textured specimens. And the wear of laser textured specimens is more severe than that of non-textured specimens. The work hardening of drilled dimple edges on bronze surface can increase the duration of mild wear regime and improve tribological properties of drilled textured specimens.Fatigue spalling and adhesion are the main wear mechanism under heavy load condition. The wear resistance can not be improved for dimple texturing under heavy load condition. After laser processing, the heat affected zone makes the fatigue spalling and adhesion serious. The drilled work-hardening edge cracks due to the impaction of mating ball, and more spalling occurs. So the wear of laser textured and drilled textured specimens have more severe than that of non-textured specimen. The wear tests of bronze specimens were carried out under lubricant condition. The volume and the friction coefficient of drill textured specimen is greater than non-textured specimen, and the wear mechanism is abrasive wear.
