The article aim at the problem that the bond strength of the traditional diamond grinding head is not high,the diamond is easy to fall off,and the lifespan is not long,adopting self-propagating hightemperature synthesis to make a new diamond grinding head.The matrix formula which is suitable fo r making was determined through research,and also the grinding research was carried out.The main work accomplished in this paper are as follows:(1)Designed and developed the manufacture process of diamond grinding head made by SHS,including the choose of matrix binder,the metal powders,the diamond grits,determined the processing procedure;(2)Analyzed the adiabatic flame temperature,it is pointed out that the self-propagating reaction should be preheated;(3)Through differential thermal analysis,analyzed the influence of different composition of bonding component and the presence or absence of diamond on the critical temperature of the self-propagating reaction;the existence of diamond can reduce the combustion temperature;(4)Fabricated five groups of diamond free blocks sintering respectively.By means of Scanning Electron Microscope and X-ray Diffraction studied the effects of different components and different density of the bonding agent on the reaction rate and the morphology of the joints,analyzed the formation mechanism;preliminary determined the matrix formula for the grinding head;(5)On the basis of the above research,three groups of blocks with diamond grits was made,through physical and chemical analysis find out the most suitable matrix formula,determined the reaction mechanism;analyzed the thermal damage of diamond after reaction,carried out grinding experiments,understood the failure process of diamond grinding head.
