In this paper,three novel aniomic surfactants containing carboxymethyl group were designed and synthesized.Three kinds of novel surfactants were used in styrene emulsion polymerization according to the basic formula of emulsion polymerization due to the surface activity characteristics of them.The polymerization kinetics,molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of polymer,microstructure of polymer were studied.At the same time,carboxymethylsulfone was applied to styrene-butadiene rubber,and a series of performance changes of styrene-butadiene rubber were investigated.Synthesis of carboxymethyl sulfide by nucleophilic substitution reaction using cetane and thioglycolic acid as raw materials and further synthesis of carboxymethylsulfoxide and carboxymethylsulfone by oxidation of carboxymethyl sulfide.These carboxymethyl compounds were characterized by FT-IR,1H-NMR and MS.DSC and TGA analysis,as well as thermal decarboxylation experiment,showed that the decarboxylation reaction of cetylcarboxymethyl sulfone began at about 150?,and the decarboxylation reaction was complete at 210?.Three novel surfactants were applied to styrene emulsion polymerization reaction.In different emulsifiers polymerization process,polymer molecular weight and distribution,polymer structure and mechanism of polymerization were investigated and researched by GPC,FT-IR,NMR,DSC,TGA and other methods.The results showed that carboxymethyl sulfide applied to styrene emulsion polymerization reaction can be polymerized at 50?.The carboxymethyl sulfoxide applied to styrene emulsion polymerization reaction can be polymerized at 40? and 50? respectively.The carboxymethyl sulfone applied to styrene emulsion polymerization reaction can be polymerized at 50?,but the conversion rate is very low.All these polymerization processes had typical free radical polymerization characteristics,and the polymerization products are atactic polystyrene with high molecular weight(Mw = 1.0×106 ~2.0×106)wide distribution(PDI = 1.9 ~ 2.3).The processing properties,mechanical properties,mechanical properties,dynamic mechanical properties,wear resistance and anti-aging properties of the styrene-butadiene rubber materials were studied by using carboxymethylsulfone as a coagulant and after curing and vulcanization.The mechanical properties,dynamic mechanical properties performance,wear resistance and anti-aging properties of the materials were investigated by Mooney viscosity,hardness,abrasion and tensile test.The results showed that compared with the traditional styrene-butadiene rubber,the styrene-butadiene rubber with carboxymethyl sulfone-containing(SBR-F)having lower Mooney viscosity,higher elongation at break indicates SBR-F has better processing performance and mechanical properties than the traditional styrene-butadiene rubber.The same the loss factor tan? around 0?indicates SBR-F has no change in slip resistance.The lower the loss factor tan? near 60?indicates SBR-F has more great rolling resistance.The smaller value of DIN indicates SBR-F has better wear resistance;Under the same aging temperature and time,the smaller rate of change of hardness and elongation indicates SBR-F has better aging resistance.
