With the continuous exploitation of resources,the utilization of poverty,fine,and complex mineral resources become more important.In order to achieve the liberation of useful mineral,the ore have to be crushed to finer particle size.Meanwhile,the development of high-tech materials industry has an increasing demand for the fineness of particles.Therefore,improving grinding efficiency of the fine grinding and superfine grinding has become one of the most important research directions in powder engineering.The research of grinding equipment and grinding media has a large development space for improving the grinding efficiency.In recent years,some new type of special-shaped medium besides the traditional spherical and long rod medium appeared in the market.Exploration the influence of new type of special-shaped medium on the grinding effect and its suitable using method has great significance for the popularization and application.Quartz sand was taken as the test materials.In order to determined the suitable application method of the millpebs medium and laid a solid foundation for its widely application in industry,the grinding effects of traditional spherical grinding media and millpebs media in fine grinding was system studied with the ball mill and the stirred mill.The ball mill experiments with the single spherical medium showed that the optimum conditions were grinding media size and proportion ?925:?20:?15=30%:30%:40%,material-ball ratio 1.0,medium charge ratio 30%,rotational speed rate 85%,and grinding concentration 70%.The mill utilization rate was 0.099 t/m3·h and the over grinding grain content ratio was 29.36%under above optimum conditions.The optimum conditions of the single new type of special-shaped medium were material-ball ratio 0.8,medium charge ratio 35%,rotational speed rate 85%,and grinding concentration 65%.Under that term,the mill utilization rate was 0.097 t/m3·h,and the over grinding grain content ratio was 23.15%.The best grinding efficiency was reached when 30%new type of special-shaped medium was mixed in spherical medium.At this time,mill utilization rate was 0.104 t/m3·h,which increased by 5.05%and 7.22%comparing with the new type of special-shaped medium and the spherical medium,respectively.Meanwhile,the over grinding grain content ratio was 26.25%,which decreased by 10.59%than the spherical medium and increased by 13.39%than the new type of special-shaped medium.In the stirred mill,the results of single spherical medium experiments showed that the optimum conditions were grinding media size ?6mm,material-ball ratio 1.0,medium charge ratio 75%,rotational speed 1001r/min,and grinding concentration 70%.The mill utilization rate was 3.82 t/m3·h and the over grinding grain content ratio was 19.28%under above optimum conditions.The optimum conditions of the single new type of special-shaped medium in the stirred mill were that material-ball ratio 0.8,medium charge ratio 80%,rotational speed 1001r/min,grinding concentration 70%.The mill utilization rate was 4.30 t/m3·h,and the over grinding grain content ratio was 16.27%.The best grinding efficiency was obtained when the new special medium was mixed with 20%spherical medilum.At this time,the mill utilization rate was 4.40 t/m3·h,which increased by 15.17%and 2.33%comparing with the spherical medium and the new special-shaped medium whilst the over grinding grain content ratio was 17.68%,which decreased by 8.30%than the spherical medium and increased by 8.67%than the new type of special-shaped medium.From the above researches,the grinding efficiency of the mixed medium was the best in three milling medium whether using ball mill or stirred mill.Thus,the best application method of the new type of special medium is mixed with the spherical medium in certain proportion.Proper use of the new special medium can improve the grinding efficiency,optimize the particle composition of grinding products,reduce the over crushing grain content,and decrease energy consumption.The research of this paper determined the suitable application method of the new type of special-shaped medium in fine grinding process and laid a solid foundation for its widely application in industry,which has a guiding significance for the improvement of grinding efficiency.
