Development Of Hydrophobic Zwitterionic Precursor Polymer For Antifouling Coatings

Abstract/Summary:
The prevention of the marine fouling problem is concerning research area around the globe.In this research,hydrophobic polymer materials are developed based on anti nonspecific protein adsorption ability of zwitterionic polymer materials.Meanwhile,to improve the nonfouling effect of materials,they are endowed with the characteristics of self-polishing.Then,their structures and properties are researeched and analyzed.The results indicate:1.P(ethyl-CBE-b-TRIS)(OH)2 was prepared by free radical polymerization,with carboxybetaine ester analogue with ethyl substituted tertiary amine(ethyl-CBE)and 3-methacryloxypropyltris(trimethylsiloxy)silane(TRIS)as the monomers and 3-mercapto-1,2-propanediol as the chain transfer agent.Polyurethane with hydrophobic zwitterionic brush side chains containing silicon(PU-PTMG-S)was developed via the polymerization with PTMG,HDI and the chain extender BDO.Through a series of tests and characterization,PU-PTMG-S showed the ability of low nonspecific protein adsorption and water resistance.And PU-PTMG-S also maintained its shape and transparency within 30 days when soaked in seawater.When it soaked in the aquarium for 90 days,it maintained good nonfouling ability.2.P(ethyl-CBE-PEGMA-TRIS)was prepared by copolymerization of ethyl-CBE,TRIS and poly(ethylene glycol)methacrylate(PEGMA)for cross-linking by hexamethylene diisocyanate(HDI),which were added into ordinary glass beads in order to show the ability of self-polishing.To improve its self-polishing ability and nonfouling ability,ordinary glass beads were modified through the reaction of 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane and ethylacrylate.Comparing two materials,the nonfouling coatings modified by zwitterionic glass beads showed better nonfouling ability and self-polishing ability.3.The prepolymer was prepared by dimethicone and HDI,bypartially substituting HDI as cross-linking agent.The purpose was to improve degradation velocity and water resistance of p(ethyl-CBE-PEGMA-TRIS).After 6 months of testing in the seawater,the product(P-Si)showed better nonfouling ability.
