A Study On Hydrophobic Powder Coating

Powder coating is an environmentally friendly method for protective and decorative coatings.They don't emit harmful emissions and they can be recycled.Hydrophobic and super-hydrophobic surface has been applied in many field like auto industry,building trades and national defense,as its unique characters such as waterproof,antifouling,self-cleaning and so on.The hydrophobic property mainly depends on the rough micro-nanostructure and low energy surface materials.In this thesis,powder based hydrophobic coating surface was developed by using micro-glass beads modified by Trimethoxy(1H,1H,2H,2H-nonafluorohexyl)silane as the hydrophobic agent and Aerosil 380 to form the micro-nanostructure.Different spray methods have been studied to make a durable hydrophobic surface.Firstly,the glass beads were modified by(1H,1H,2H,2H-nonafluorohexyl)Trimethoxy lsilane and the hydrophobic property test show that the modification was successful.Then the hydrophobic coating was sprayed by a mixture of the modified glass beads and powder coating.The distribution and effect of the nanoparticles were studied.The results showed that the dry mixing method could partly improve the coating's hydrophobic property.In order to improve the hydrophobicity of the coating,the modified glass beads were sprayed to the coating powders directly.Hydrophobic coating with water contact angle of 136° was developed in this way.To improve the durability of hydrophobic coating,glass beads were sprayed to the partly cured coating surface.The results showed that this method works well.Then Hydrophobic coating with water contact angle of 140° was developed by using slurry spray method.And after 400° times rubbing,the water contact angle reduced to 131°.Different types of solvents was studied to obtain a better coating appearance.Powder coating exhibit many advantages over liquid coatings and hydrophobic coating has a broad application prospects.In this thesis,durable hydrophobic surface based on powder coating was made.The method has obvious competitive advantage and practical value as its extensive application and the coating's durability.
