The aluminum electrolysis cell is the major equipment for the production of aluminum.How to prolong the cell life concerns mostly for the researchers in this field.It is our common hope to prolong the potlife and decrease the cost of repairing and production,as well as save energy.Based on the actual situation of BSYH Corp.,the methods on prolonging the cell potlife were studied,and the main results are as allow:(1)Adoption of the TiB2 coat can improve the wettability between aluminum liquid and special shaped cathode,the roasted cathode temperature distribution,and reduce the shaped cathode surface temperature gradient.Clean bottom,minimizing the generation of precipitation and reducing the bottom pressure drop can be achieved.The chance of early damage of special shaped cathode cell and short life of profiled cathode carbon block can be also avoided.(2)Due to the poor thermal equilibrium,the side-section of cell installed shaped cathode is damaged easily.The side carbon block was reshaped by using the side charcoal remodeling method.The method can extend the average life of the side carbon block about 230 days,improving the cell life,reducing the repair costs and the cell start-up costs,reducing depletion of the bus current during the electrolyzer overhaul,abating the labor intensity and improving the working environment of workers.(3)Double medium roasting tests on 240kA special shaped cathode cell can improve current distribution of the special shaped cathodes and heating rate,reducing thermal stress and improving the baking quality.(4)The internal structure of the electrolytic cell was optimized.The dry permeate-proof materials was used as a substitute instead of the powder of Al2O3 or the fire brick under the bottom.The average side carbon blocks were replaced by the Si3N4-SiC brick,which can prevent corrosion occurring in the side of cell.These corrective actions not only increase the output but also prolong the cell life.
