In this paper,Iron p-toluenesulfonate?Fe?OTs?3·6H2O?was synthesized as catalyst and hydrogen peroxide?H2O2?was used as oxidant to optimize the catalytic oxidation of benzyl alcohol and butanol. The phase equilibrium property of the oxidation system was also studied.Fe?OTs?3·6H2O was synthesized by p-toluenesulfonic acid and ferric hydroxide, and the obtained products were characterized by elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry and infrared spectroscopy. The oxidation of benzyl alcohol was studied with Fe?OTs?3·6H2O as catalyst and H2O2 as oxidant. The effects of reaction temperature, reaction time, the amount of catalyst, the amount of hydrogen peroxide and the type of solvent on the reaction products were discussed.Research shows that the type of solvent has a great influence on the selectivity of the reaction, and the appropriate reaction conditions when using chloroform and acetonitrile as solvents were studied. When Fe?OTs?3·6H2O was used as catalyst in the oxidation of n-butanol,C-C chain scission phenomenon was observed in reaction, and this phenomenon was carried on preliminary discussion. The liquid-liquid equilibrium data of benzoic acid in benzyl alcohol, benzaldehyde, acetonitrile, ethyl acetate, cyclohexane and n-hexane was measured by a dynamic method in the temperature range of 288.15K to 333.15K.The solubility data were correlated by the modified Apelblat model,Wilson model and ?h model, and the results showed that the three models agree well with experimental data. The thermodynamic properties of the dissolution process, including enthalpy, entropy, and Gibbs energy were estimated from the experimental data by the modified van't Hoff equation, indicating that the process of the dissolution of Fe?OTs?3·6H2O is endothermic. The liquid-liquid equilibrium data of water + butyric acid +?n-butanol or butyraldehyde?were determined by equilibrium kettle at 293.15-323.15 K.The experimental data were correlated by NRTL model and UNIQUAC model to obtain the binary Interaction parameters, and the results indicated that the experimental data were well-fitted with both models.
