Pyridine compounds play an important role in heterocyclic compounds, which are widely used in medicine and functional materials and other fields.Pyridine compounds have strong stability,so they have excellent characteristics such as oxidation resistance and heat resistance, making them be of great significance in the fields of drug synthesis, natural products, and polymer materials.Due to the wide range of uses of pyridine compounds, many years of methods and applications for the synthesis of pyridine compounds have been of concern to chemists.Based on the principle of high efficiency, simplicity, and economy,we propose a new scheme for the synthesis of polysubstituted pyridines. There are two parts in this article to describe the application and synthesis of pyridine compounds:The first part mainly introduces the application of pyridine compounds and their derivatives, and summarizes the methods for the synthesis of pyridine by domestic and foreign workers since the 21 st century. This article classifies whether the catalyst for the synthesis of pyridine is a transition metal. The second part is a detailed introduction of the new method developed by our research group for copper-catalyzed synthesis of 2,4,6-triphenylpyridine from toluene and aromatic ketones.Under the catalysis of copper trifluoromethanesulfonate, aromatic ketones, toluene and ammonium acetate were used as reaction materials,tert-butyl hydroperoxide as oxidant, and a series of polysubstituted pyridine compounds were obtained through oxidative coupling reaction. The synthesis method realizes the synthesis of pyridine by the coupling of methylbenzene oxidized toluene, acetophenone and ammonium acetate and has the advantages of mild conditions, high reaction efficiency and good substrate adaptability.
