The inorganic polymer (IPC) has the advantages of green, quick setting, rapidhardening, heat-resistant and corrosion-resistant; however it also has the drawbacksof high dry shrinkage and poor carbonizing-resistant capability. Therefore, researchon how to avoid the disadvantages of IPC has important theoretical research valueand engineering practice.Based on the mass experiments and theoretical researches, hydration process,shrinkage performance and carbonation performance of IPC and inorganic polymerconcrete filled steel tube (IPCS) are studied in this paper. Eventually it has beentestified that the steel tube can improve the drawback of IPC’s poorcarbonizing-resistant capability and the expanding agent can solve the problem ofhigh dry shrinkage, meanwhile the results provide a certain foundation to proposethe concept of the inorganic polymer concrete filled steel tube.1The heat of hydration of IPC is analyzed through micro-structural analysis ofraw materials, cementitious materials and concrete. Then hydration mechanism,hydration products and hydration heat curve of IPC are carried out. The results showthat dense degree and quality of cementing material in IPC members is better thanthat of concrete. The alkaline matter in IPC increases with the dosage of expansionagent.2Based on the experiments, the temperature field of IPCS members inhydration stage with different dosage of expansion agent was tested. Theexperimental results show that the change rules of temperature field of IPCSmembers in different dosage of expansion agent are similar, and the dosage ofexpansion agent has significant influence on temperature field maximum value ofIPCS members.3Based on the experiments, shrinkage performance of IPC and IPCS memberswith different dosage of expansion was tested. The experimental results show thatthere has a great difference of shrinkage performance between IPCS members andIPC ones, and shrinkage values of core concrete in IPCS members is far less thanthat of IPC. Expansive agent has a great influence on the shrinkage performance, and expansive agent can obviously improve the shrinkage performance of IPC.4Based on the systematic experiments and theoretical analysis, carbonationperformance of IPC and IPCS members with different dosage of expansion wastested. The results show that the distinction of different raw materials in carbonationperformance is obvious, carbonation performance of members with mineral powderas the raw material is greater than that of members with fly ash as the raw material.Expansive agent has a great influence on the carbonation performance, andexpansive agent can obviously improve the carbonation performance of IPC.Meanwhile carbonation depth of IPCS is0mm after accelerated carbonation, almostno carbonation. Thus it can be testified that IPCS can avoid the generation of IPCcarbonation.
