The steel plate shear wall is a structurally effective and economical lateral loadresisting system. The steel plate shear wall has advantages over the conventionalreinforced concrete wall in several aspects. The overall weight of a structure can besignificantly reduced by using the steel plate shear wall. Therefore, the size of thefoundation and the earthquake load can be reduced. Further, structures can beconstructed more quickly with the use of the steel plate wall. Also, the lavish floor areacan be increased by using the steel plate wall with thin infill plates. These advantagesmake it become widely used in practical constructions. Setting vertical channelstiffeners on steel plate shear wall can increase the critical buckling stress; at the sametime, the critical shear buckling stress under horizontal load can be increased. It can alsolimit the outside surface deformation of the steel plate wall under the action ofhorizontal loading and provide a relatively larger torsion restraint than others. This article designs2thin steel wall models of square concrete filled steel tubularframe, which have two layers and single span in the scale ratio of1:3. Nonlinear finiteelement software ABAQUS6.11can be used to analyze them under unidirectional andcyclic load. In this way, the working mechanism, failure mechanism, ultimate bearingcapacity, stiffness, ductility, hysteretic behavior and the energy dissipation capacity ofthe models can be studied; Also, this paper designs a large number of single span steelwall models which have one layer. By changing the steel stiffening plate wallparameters such as stiffener size, the stiffener number, the way putting channelstiffeners and the stiffening coefficient, these models can be analysis to show how theseparameters above affect each other. The results show that comparing with the thin steelplate wall, channel steel stiffening thin steel plate shear wall has obvious advantages in its lateral resistance and seismic performance. The buckling load of steel plate wall hasa linear relationship with the width thickness ratio of stiffener; It is the best for singleand interlaced stiffening steel plate wall to choose the value of stiffening coefficientequals20and the stiffeners number is6(square plate); whereas choosing that the valueof stiffening coefficient equals30and the stiffeners number is6(square plate), is thebest for the double reinforced steel plate wall. Single and interlaced stiffening steel platewall have a similar lateral resistance, but have a large difference comparing with thedouble reinforced steel plate wall.
