The popularity of vehicles brings convenience to the public’s lives; however, it results in a number of security problems. Criminals engaging in illegal activities depend on vehicle’s concealment, especially in the vehicle chassis hiding dangerous or prohibited items, have caused an increasingly serious impact on people’s lives and the regional stability on a global scale. How to perform efficient and comprehensive safety inspection has become an urgent social problem that needs to be solved, thus the vehicle chassis imaging system arises at the historic moment.A smart vehicle chassis imaging system based on IPC instead of the expensive industrial linear CCD camera is designed and realized to achieve the function of vehicle safety inspection. In the thesis, the main clue is how to obtain a real-time, complete and clear image of the vehicle chassis. Firstly, according to the characteristics of the application’s image data sequence, we designed a preprocessing method to extract the candidate registration area to reduce the probability of mismatching and improve the speed of the subsequent data processing procedure. Secondly, we address a kind of template-based regional registration technology to obtain the offset increment as we argues that the translational motion of the vehicle in practice lead to translational motion in the image data sequences. Experiments show that the proposed image registration algorithm achieves real-time registration and strong robustness. Thirdly, we adjust the global brightness of the image area to be stitched and then using image fusion algorithm to reintegrate images. Results show that the fusion method is effective in reducing the gap to improve the quality of mosaics. Fourthly, we expound the overall design of the imaging system chassis and operational processes, specially designed the underground imaging equipment as the IPC’s vision is narrow, and realized the vehicle chassis imaging system software to complete the task of vehicle safety inspection together with the hardware.The proposed IPC-based vehicle chassis imaging system, which involves integrated operations of hardware and software, can be applied to most application scenarios in aspects of cost-control, vehicle chassis image quality, timeliness and user operation, etc.
