As one of the core components of the power system, the safe and stable operation of the bus is the Foundation to ensure supply reliability, improve power quality. The reliability of significant of Bus impact on the operation of power plants and substations. Compared with transmission lines and distribution lines, less likely the bus failed, but once the bus having a short circuit or ground fault, all electrical components will pick on the bus will be forced to cut and load dump, causing massive outage, power equipment will having been seriously damaged. If there is a fault on the bus at a central substation, it will affect the stability of power system operation, resulting in power grid collapsing, and the consequences are very serious. There are lots of bus protection method, their purpose is to ensure that when a failure occurred on the bus, protection device of bus can remove the fault to be sure that the power system security and stability is not compromised.Firstly the paper introduces the domestic and foreign research status of bus protection methods. Then, the paper introduces different ways of wiring in the substation, and analyzes the different methods of bus protection based on microcomputer of different wiring modes. Subsequently, analyzes two factors of impacting protection of the bus: saturation of current transformer and isolation switch contacts error. Outlines of chapeng substation protection configuration, and studies the XJ WMH-800 Busbar differential protection device based on 220 kV Chapeng substation in Anyang power grid as a example; Finally, the paper analyzes the causes of 110 kV Busbar differential protection maloperation of 220 kV Chapeng substation in Anyang power grid and put forward appropriate solutions.
