For its good performance in control, industrial inverters have been widely used in industrial drives. Inverters'reliability of quality is very important for stable operation of the industrial system, therefore, to design fault diagnosis system to diagnose fault of the inverter is essential.A fault diagnosis system for E2 industrial inverter was designed in this paper, the designed fault diagnosis system was implemented for the production process of the E2 inverter to detect whether the inverter was integral, and to find out whether the inverter had fulfill design requirements, then ensuring that each inverter was prefect. The designed fault diagnosis system has been put into production lines for practical applications. As this paper was completed, thousands of E2 industrial inverters were detected through the fault diagnosis system and the fault diagnosis system performs well.Firstly, in this paper, requirements for the design of E2 industrial inverter fault diagnosis system was gave out, and the chip and communication rules used in the fault diagnosis system were described. Secondly, based on applications, the Kalman filter algorithm using in this fault diagnosis system was studied, and simulation of Kalman filtering was carried out. Finally implementations of E2 inverter fault diagnosis system were completely given, and the selection of equipments, the hardware circuit structures, and development of fault diagnosis software were discussed as well.In the aspect of hardware circuit structure, the circuit of fault diagnosis system was designed by 12 functional modules. These 12 functional circuit modules were designed in order to fulfill the function of the fault diagnosis system. A fully physical circuit simulation platform was designed, and the implementation methods for E2 inverter power supply, communication, analog input and output, PWM signal, over-current protection and relay function, were fully proposed.In the aspect of software, communication subroutines were designed based on the E2 industrial inverter data format and communication protocol, building communication approach between E2 inverter and the fault diagnosis system. Fault diagnosis signal filtering, acquisition and generating subroutines were designed based on filtering algorithm and acquisition card. Main program was designed based on function circuit and steps of fault diagnosis, realizing fault diagnosis logic and function. Finally, interface and fault code were designed. All the fault diagnosis results could be represented by 7 bytes fault code.
