Around the world there are new methodologies to evaluate structural damage, which is presented as a consequence of seismic actions; and it is because of that that it is of vital importance to establish the evaluation criteria that allow to classify this damage in different levels. These “damage levels” have a relationship with the states or performance levels described in the ATC 40 and they are obtained through a pushover analysis and, with this analysis is determined the structure capacity curve; this curve depends on the number of stories, plant distribution, structural elements sections, materials, reinforce detail, among others. Nonlinear static analysis using pushover procedures are becoming increasingly common in engineering practice for seismic evaluation of building structures. Is one of several methods for seismic performance evaluation of structure. It can evaluate the strength of the structure until its performance level. It can also provide reasonable estimates of the location of the plastic hinge of the members. The performance point of structure in Nonlinear Static Pushover Analysis depends on the lateral load pattern applied on the structure. This thesis considers the pushover analysis of a building-podium system. An analysis of the dynamic characteristics of the model was performed, making a comparison between SAP2000 program and PKPM program. The pushover analysis for 3 different load pattern(acceleration load pattern, Modal load pattern, and forces load pattern) and for two different kind of earthquakes(moderate and rare) was then performed. Calculating the performance point, story drift and plastic hinges, where is directly related with the applied load pattern and first appeared in the beams and then in columns, reflecting the principle of strong column and weak beam.
