As a new kind of manufacturing method, large-scale customization will become one of main production modes, since it caters for customers’ individual demands while keeps low cost and short delivery period. Product configuration design can configure the product which fulfills customer’s individual demands rapidly. It is the foundations that divide the modules properly and establish the configuration models to realize product rapid configuration. Consequently, research on product configuration method and module divide method is of great importance.After the analysis of the current research status all over the world and the remaining problems, and under the guidance of modular design theory, the thesis defined the product part information model, the product part correlation degree and the parameters of module estimation index. Then, it analyzed product part correlation degree through part’s function, structure, process and material; proposed four correlation degree estimation criterions to divide the product modules; illustrated the module’s interface feature, and explained the divided module’s adjust method and criterion. Furthermore, a product parts correlation degree formula was estimated according to related theory and method, and eventually testified the module dividing method on a plate heat exchanger.In the following chapters, I described the concept of product family and the features of product family configuration model. To be precise, I introduced the criterions and procedures of establishing product part family configuration model, and illustrated it with a model case. Then I discussed the product family model based on modular. Finally, I explained the product family configuration module’s information management technology in details, provided a solid theoretical and practical foundation for product configuration design method.Meanwhile, I expounded the basic procedure of modeled product configuration and its key technologies, including requirement extraction technology, configuration rule expression technology, standardization and normalization technology. A configuration plan evaluation method was proposed based on them.Finally, the product configuration system development environment and tool was introduced. The system’s structure and function module was introduced in detail, and eventually testified the method on a plate heat exchanger.
