As the demand for oil and gas resources is increasing, offshore oil and gas resources development cause more and more countries' attention. Because of South China Sea's rich resources as well as a controversial location, it leads to a cusp of discussion. As a mainstream platform, FPSO(Floating Production Storage and Offloading) mooring system has been increasingly widely used in deep-sea oil and gas resources development. Research on FPSO mooring system has great significance for improving the technology of deep-sea oil and gas resources development. In this paper, we concentrate on this two problems: the dynamic response of FPSO mooring systems under extreme loads and fatigue life of the mooring lines. This paper firstly introduces the research background and the research object, and gives an extensive survey of the research status for the above two issues at home and abroad. Secondly, have a frequency-domain analysis on FPSO under regular wave and calculate the dynamic response of the FPSO mooring system in the South China Sea under extreme environmental loads based on coupling method. Then have a comprehensive analysis of the fatigue strength calculation method of the mooring system, and give the fatigue damage calculating step of mooring line. Finally, calculate the the fatigue damage of a composite mooring line of FPSO mooring system in the S4 area of South China Sea, and compare the fatigue properties between steel chain and wire rope. Conclusions show that this mooring system meets the relevant specifications and can work normally. Research work in this paper has some reference value for the actual ocean engineering design.
