For global energy crisis and the increasingly serious environmental pollution problems, development and utilization of clean renewable energy is imperative. Grid-connected converter plays an important role between the renewable energy and the grid. The performance of the grid-connected converter determines whether we can use the renewable energy at a high efficiency. As an alternative solution for conventional AC-DC-AC converter, matrix converter is widely noted and becomes one of research emphasis in renewable energy area because of its excellent performance.Firstly, the development and promising application of MC in renewable energy area are introduced, as well as the most widely used SVPWM modulation strategy. The characteristics of different vector orders in this modulation strategy are studied and the power follow in matrix converter is analyzed, the principle of reactive compensation is also explained. Then, this paper focus on the application of MC as a connecter between grid and micro-grid in airport. Mathematic models of source side and micro-grid side are established and the currents control schemes are studied based on them. A source current close-loop control strategy based on states feedback of filter is proposed to control the source power factor accurately and damp the resonance of LC filter. Taking the source current loop and micro-grid current loop as inner loop and outer loop respectively, the dual current loop control strategy of MC grid-connected system is designed. The magnitudes and directions of active power and reactive power can be adjusted freely and the excellent static performance and dynamic performance are assured.Finally, the grid-connected system based on MC simulation model is established in Matlab/Simulink, and the prototype system is designed. As a result, serial experiments have been conducted and approve that the dual current loop control strategy of the grid-connected system is practically correct and feasible.
