Research On Xi’an Urban Public Facilities Information Service Design

Urban public facilities are not only key to build an urban environment system but also an important public information carrier for the residents and visitors. The development level of public facilities reflects the local life quality as well as the city’s economic capabilities and management. With the proposal of "To make Xi’an an international city by 2020", Xi’an, the old city, is facing new challenges and taking important responsibilities.The information system in the urban public facilities is a main communication media between people and space, environment. A simple example to illustrate the value and core of the public information system is that people new to a city do not get lost without a tutor. Due to the late industrialization process and the fast urbanization process, the current information system in Xi’an public facilities cannot meet the demands of people’s life, which makes it urgent to optimize and improve the information system.In this thesis, the customer of the design is Xi’an residents and visitors. The research subject is the public information of Xi’an public facilities. Following the idea of "providing user better experience", the design is based on user’s demands and experience from the user point of view. The thesis is organized as follows. First, a field study on Xi’an public facilities is introduced followed by the problems discovered in the study of the practical information system. Next, a questionnaire survey and the corresponding results not meeting the user requirements are present. The problems in the field study and the survey results are organized and summarized. Using the information service design theory, the whole process of public information communication is investigated. Further several research methods on Xi’an public information system are proposed that can be used as reference for future improvement and optimization of the urban public information system. Finally, the topics for future study are given.Information service design is a new design thinking and method for urban public facilities in the context of information popularity. It is also the future research trend of urban public information design. The research methods involved in this thesis include literature review, field study, questionnaire survey and theory summary. Specifically, the related theory and literature are studied to develop the research methods. The field study and questionnaire survey are conduct to collect the important information related to the research subject. Through summarization, Xi’an urban public information service design is proposed to optimize and improve the urban public information system.
