Urban roadside green space is extensive, widely-distributed and closely related to people’s daily life. Its form is flexible and it is frequently used. Meanwhile it is important to maintain the ecological environment and show the urban image and cultural connotation.Practice has proved that this kind of small green space is more conducive to people’s social and psychological needs, enrich people’s lives and emotions, and also beautify and improve the ecological environment. With the rapid globalization, regional landscape, however, is being destroyed. Roadside green space is often ignored in the actual construction because of lesser area, lack of characteristics and the cultural homogenization, which would mean the demise of the urban characteristics. In this paper, the theory and practice on the design of roadside green space are studied from a regional landscape perspective with the methods of literature research, field observation, questionnaire survey and interviews, as well as data chart. The results are as followings:(1)The conception of regional landscape is redefined, which clearly contains the era spirit. It emphasizes the impact and important significance of the product of the era spirit on the regional landscape with developing vision. Meanwhile, the classification, characteristics and functions of roadside green space and regional landscape characteristics together with its influence factors are discussed.(2)From a regional landscape perspective on roadside green space, the article summed up the problems in terms of applying of natural conditions and cultural connotation, choices of construction materials and facilities sketch design. Regional landscape design practices are systematically summarized from the macroscopic natural environment and local culture to microscopic garden landscaping elements(terrain, water, plants, paving and furniture) with the principles of the regional landscape design: ecology, humanization, regional and aesthetics as a guide.(3)Taking the roadside green space of Wangmu pool as a case practice, this paper refined and analyzed regional natural resources(topography, soil, water, plants) and human resources(religious culture, stone culture, water culture) of Wangmu pool green space, and meanwhile focused on analysis of its condition and put forward some countermeasures onparking, road system, the lack of geographical features, barrier free design and service facilities by Post Occupancy Evaluation. From the macro and micro aspects of program design, the article highlighted regional characteristics of Wangmu pool roadside green space in order to provide some cases reference for the regional landscape construction of the green space.
