| Under the background of China’s rapid urbanization, urban development land is extending continuously, which means removal and resettlement of suburb villages will be more and more common. Because of the urban land shortage and the differential land rent effect, the resettlement residential areas will be planned and constructed in a more urbanized style rather than the traditional new residential construction style. It is noteworthy that the local memory, customs and habits, and cultural tradition disappear together with the villages after they are replaced by modern resettlement residential areas. Meanwhile, with the abrupt smashing of the original social environment, the resettled villagers cannot adapt to the new environment so fast. Under this circumstance, this paper proposes the concept of local elements in the hope of extracting and applying them to the design of resettlement residential areas so as to rebuild the original local elements to a certain extent, thereby, during the process of urbanization, the resettled villagers can adapt to the new environment gradually and some of the local features can be reserved. This paper first analyzes the local elements and classifies them into three categories: local society, local culture and local buildings. All three are necessary to the rebuilding of local environment: local society serves as the root of local settlement, local culture serves as the soul, and local buildings serve as the materialized expression and carrier of local elements. Secondly, it analyzes the problems existing in the resettlement residential areas and the application of local elements. Finally, by considering together with the actual project, this paper analyzes and extracts the local elements and their characteristics, and analyzes and demonstrates their application in this project from three aspects, including local biological relations(acquaintance society creation), local space(architectural style rebuilding), and local memory(historical culture inherit). In reality, most of the buildings in resettlement residential areas are multi-storey and high-rise buildings. Although their local connotation is far less than the original village settlements, however, as an inevitable consequence under the pace of urbanization, multi-storey and high-rise resettlement residential areas are an unavoidable reality under China’s current condition of land shortage and large population. Therefore, the local elements survey and example analysis of multi-storey and high-rise resettlement residential areas are of practical value and realistic meaning. |
