The fractal theory was born in 1975, ever since, it is not only widely used in various fields of science and art, but also provides a new subversive perspective for people to understand nature and world. Architecture as a subject fusing science and arts has been heavily influenced by mathematics especially geometry, fractal geometry has brought a new revolution for the theoretical research and practical creation of architecture.The Sierpinski triangle is one of the classical fractal graphicals, it has been applied in some pioneer architects' architectural creation, however, limited by the contradiction between its form and architectural space, its scope of application in architectural design is still restricted. The subtype Sierpinski triangle transformed from Sierpinski triangle skillfully solves this contradiction, thus greatly expands its application in architecture.This thesis discusses the concept of subtype Sierpinski triangle and its application in architectural design. Through the research of its geometric properties and formation rule, the author points out the link between it and the general architectural elevation design, and discuss the possibility of application in this field. At the same time, combined with the general principle of fractal architecture creation, the author summs up the creation ideas of subtype Sierpinski triangle application in architectural design, thus to create new architectural form and space pattern.At the beginning of the thesis, the author first briefly introduces the research background, then describs the research framework of the thesis and the main research methods.The main body of the thesis is divided into three parts to discuss the relevant concepts, theoretical research and practical application.The second chapter interprets the basic concept, emphatically introduces the generation and characteristics of subtype Sierpinski triangle, as well as its relationship with other classical fractal graphicals and related theories.The third chapter is about theoretical research of subtype Sierpinski triangle, the emphasis of the discussion is the possibility of subtype Sierpinski triangle's application in architectural design, including its relationship with the creation of general building elevation, as well as the inheritance and transcend of the application of Sierpinski triangle in architectural design, in the end the author summarizes the general ideas of subtype Sierpinski triangle's application in architectural design.The fourth chapter and the fifth chapter discuss the practice application of subtype Sierpinski triangle, it's the core part of this thesis.The fourth chapter takes four basic models as examples to verifice the operability of the foregoing theory, the models are only prototypes of design builded just for experimental discussion.The fifth Chapter uses four completed architectural projects to comprehensive discuss the subject, they are attempts transforming the relevant theory combined with design conditions to reality architecture.In the conclusion part of the thesis, the author summarizes the current research of the subject and makes prospects for its development direction.
