As the dominant type of architecture in the populous areas of rural China, housing plays a significant role not only in the actual life and work of the residents, but also in the New Countryside Construction.The paper aims at revealing the contributory factors to the development of green housing in rural China through a comprehensive analysis of the general issues and achievements over the years, such as energy consumption and energy-saving potential, in an effort to provide some fresh inspiration for further discussion on this issue.Starting from a review of the research findings and practical achievements over time for a panorama of green housing development in rural China, the paper proceeds to trace the history of green-housing security system with personal reflection on its improvement based on a full-scale review of the relevant normative documents on both national and local levels. In-depth analysis is subsequently made of the above-mentioned issues and connections are established among construction materials, related technologies and subsidiary facilities in terms of their ecological features to ensure comprehensiveness and accuracy of the findings.Conclusion centers on the major difficulties and feasibility of popularization of green housing in rural China from professional and social perspectives followed by suggestions and proposals for future research and practice in this field.
