With the increasing requirement of fossil fuel consumption, the NOx emission rises markedly. The resulting series of environmental problems, such as the greenhouse effect, acid precipitation, ozone depletion and photochemical smog, gain more and more attention. The flue gas denitration equipment for the generating sets in coal-fired power plants has become an inevitable tendency in this context of more stringent requirements on NOx emission control and treatment.By referring to relevant literatures both at home and abroad, the formation mechanism of nitrogen oxides in thermal power plant and the main measures of nitrogen oxides emission reduction are described in detail, as well as the development course and status quo of denitration catalysts and NOx removal mechanisms. This paper then makes a comparison between different denitration technologies according to the requirement for reconstruction, and then selective catalytic reduction method is chosen. By synthetically considering parameters of apparatus and fuel properties, the key issues with the SCR system, such as the choice of denitrification technique, type of catalyst and some other design parameters are analyzed and optimized. According to the above-mentioned design scheme, the modifications of existing unit are also introduced. The paper then provides techno-economic analysis and life cycle assessment of the SCR system. From the point of view of environmental implication and social benefit, the result shows that the achieved denitration efficiency met the design requirements and the government limiting standard of the nitric oxide, which both reached the expected social and economic benefits. Finally, the models of SCR system and the influence factors are stated, providing theoretical foundation for improving denitration effect.The analytical investigation on treatment of nitrogen oxides for the 200MW unit of coal fired power plant can offer the reference and enlightenment for the similar engineering projects in the future.
