Phase noise is the random change signal phase outputted by the system(such as various RF devices)under various noises. It is an important technical indicators to measure the frequency source of the merits. With the development of electronic technology, the phase noise of the signal receiver has an important impact, such as electronic systems, especially mobile communications system, Doppler radar systems, navigation systems. Therefore, the phase noise measurement method already become the important research within the field of electronic measurement.The Spectral estimation method is widely used in the phase noise measurement system, but the methods are difficult to balance the indication confliction between the high frequency resolution and wide-band analysis. In order to solve this issue, our group proposed spectrum segmentation method to deal with it. This article describes several of the more common methods of spectral estimation, and compared their estimation by MATLAB simulation performance, providing the basis implement info for practical application choice, emphasis has been put forward for the spectrum of the segment method, through different methods to achieve the spectrum estimation method simulation experiments based on the DSP. In one hand it verified the effectiveness of segmentation spectral estimation frequency for both high resolution wide-band analysis, in another hand it proved spectrum segmentation method for spectral estimation of general applicability. In additional, this paper has proposed a method based on the phase noise measurement mathematical model in order to do the depth research. It contains two main part: 1. There is a ignored part that Gaussian noise near the carrier, which need put in the considerations, prior to further improve the fitting method to reduce the phase noise estimation error, and through MATLAB simulation method is proved effective; 2. Using the improved mathematical model of phase noise measurement method and extended to the phase noise measurement pulse modulation signal. This method proved is effective by MATLAB simulation method.
