Rotating equipment is widely applied in the fields such as industrial, military, aviation and so on. Data transfer is often required between the rotating part and the stationary part of the equipment. Since the operating environment may be flooded with dust or electromagnetic radiation, it’s necessary to develop a non-contact data transfer method which can work steadily in the complex environment.A data transfer method based on electric field coupling for the rotating equipment is proposed. The insulating medium space between the two capacitor plates will be regarded as the channel to transfer data. This method can work steadily in magnetic field surroundings for the electric and the magnetic in the same space do not interfere with each other. The differential data transfer mechanism is adopted to make up for the lack of capability of restraining common mode interference. We study the relationship between the crosstalk and the geometric parameters of capacitor plates by simulation. Depending on the simulation data, an empirical formula is given to calculate the minimal crosstalk. All these work will benefit the design of the capacitor plates. We design the supporting circuits and set up a prototype system to verify the validity of the method. The experimental results show that the system can work steadily in the magnetic field with a data transfer rate up to 400 kbps. Due to the scalable structure, the method can be used to transfer multiple signals when several structures are paralleled.
