Due to its excellent performance,high performance ferrocement laminate is applied to the reinforcement of beam,slab,column,brick masonry,and enormous research findings have been achieved in the past a few years.Nevertheless,study on using HPFL to reinforce the shear wall structure still remains a gap.Thus,it is determined that high performance ferrocement laminate be applied to the secondary load reinforcement of short-pier shear walls which havedifferent opening sizes.Taking advantage of experimental study,finite element method and theoretical analysis,this paper analyses the seismic performance of short-pier shear wall both strengthened and not strengthened.In addition,the influence of opening size to the seismic performance of short-pier shear is studied.The results are as follows.Firstly,specific reinforcement program aiming at the structural feature and failure pattern of short-pier shear wall is proposed.Then,an pseudo-static test is conducted.The result shows that,having been strengthened by HPFL,the bearing capacity,ductility,and energy dissipation increase,while the speed of stiffness degeneration lowers down.Besides,the failure mode improves a lot.Secondly,as the size of opening increases,the bearing capacity and initial lateral rigidity goes down.Meanwhile,ductility and energy dissipation capacity increase a lot.Thirdly,by the means of ANSYS,numerical simulation is carried out on the short-pier shear walls both strengthened and not strengthened.The results of numerical simulation and experiment match well,proving that numerical simulation is rational.Finally,taking the effect of HPFL into full consideration,formulas describing the lateral stiffness and flexural bearing capacity are proposed for the short-pier shear wall strengthened by HPFL.On account of its rationality,convenience and accuracy,this formula well meets the demands of engineering,as well as a useful reference to engineers and technicians.
