At present, GIS has become an important part of the power grid in the domestic high-voltage power systems, owing to its unparalleled advantages. But with more and more GIS equipment having been installed and put into use in the nationwide power grid construction, some of the problems have also been highlighted. According to the statistics of maintenance and defect recently, the failure rate of GIS is high. Due to the lack of effective means of detection and maintenance technology, we have to spend more time and efforts on troubleshooting, which dramatically reduces the efficiency of maintenance personnel's work. Therefore, the research on GIS equipment routine fault detection,maintenance strategies and its pre-control measures will lower its fault occurrence rate and shorten its maintenance time, which has great significance in ensuring the safety and stable operation of GIS equipment.According to the frequency and extent of damage failure, in this paper, the author will take three main faults as the objects of study, that is SF6 gas leakage,SF6 gas micro water exceeded and partial discharge of the GIS. The paper studies its causes and hazards in principle and introduces the detection principles and methods. On the basis of actual cases, it also introduces proper detection methods and judgment data,summarizes the causes of accidents, give the brief description of repair methods and precautions. Besides, it describes the case of the actual site and summarizes the causes of the malfunction by using expertise in substation maintenance field, in order to provide uniform standards and norms for the above three kinds of faults, and develop preventive measures.By using the fault detection methods, this paper summarizes the causes of failures.Besides it presents the detection process and the judgment of the three main faults of GIS.This paper also put forwards relevant repair technologies, criteria and preventive measures. All these efforts will bring benefits to the maintenance personnel to make them timely discover and deal with accidents and therefore to ensure the security and stable operation of the power system.
