Inheriting the quintessence of architectural art of Tang,Song and Yuan Dynasties, the decorations with unique aesthetics of Ming and Qing, the last two dynasties of Chinese feudal society, took shape in the contradictory evolution featuring social affluence and economic prosperity mixed with constraint and development of thoughts of feudal rituals. To keep up with the frequency of commercial activities and the increase of exotic businessmen, the Luoyang Shanxi-Shaanxi Guild Hall emerged as a gathering place perfectly suitable for the social transformation, social and economic background. No matter the magnificent architectural volume or the sophisticated architectural elements, they all manifested the luxury and pomposity pursued by the prominent tycoons at the time. The Luoyang Shanxi-Shaanxi Guild Hall, with the typical decorative styles of Ming and Qing Dynasties,it not only created a new height in the art of social and public buildings, but also enriched the traditional architectural languages of ancient China;moreover,it retained the outstanding architectural culture that would never vanish. This thesis carries out a case study on the decorative art of Luoyang Shanxi-Shaanxi Guild Hall, making an in-depth analysis and illustration to the decorations from three aspects: themes, forms and skills of expression based on the decorative styles of buildings in Ming and Qing Dynasties and from the perspective of aesthetics in the transformation period of society, probing into the aesthetic implication and humanistic connotation reflected by the decorations of the Guild Hall.
