IMO started to develop the second generation of intact stability criterion in 2008. After recent development, it has achieved remarkable results. The failure mode of the parameters of roll, slumped ship, pure loss of stability have reached an agreement, but the existing criterion is more suitable for container ships, passenger ship rolling and other large merchant ships. Though the fishing boats sailing in waves are more likely to capsize, the second generation stability criterion is involved very few. The paper is aimed to find out the capsizing mechanism of fishing boat in waves in more detail, based on the second generation stability criterion. Through the calculation and analysis to investigate the stability of fishing vessel in waves, the fishing vessels do some beneficial exploration and technical reserves to the second generation stability criterion. Based on this, this article's main research content is:(1) The latest SDC meeting document introduces the level 1 and level 2 of the evaluation methods of the parameters of roll, slumped ship, pure loss of stability to fishing vessels.(2) Based on the formulation and the calculation method of the second generation of IMO stability criterion in parameter of roll, slumped ship and pure of loss stability criterion of five fishing boat, a total of 15 kinds of load conditions are evaluated and analyzed.(3) By calculating and analyzing the sample ship, the fishing boat is more likely to occur capsize in waves in the situation of pure of loss of stability. Therefore, this paper focuses on study the pure loss of stability to fishing vessels. The paper discusses the specific fishing vessels in various working conditions with the failure mode of pure loss of stability.(4) In view of calculation and analysis of a variety of load conditions of the fishing boat, the paper explore different from principal dimensions, ship form coefficients and load conditions with the result of pure loss of stability to infer some regularity to fishing boats.Main work of this article is based on the research of the stability safety of the IMO secnond generation intact stability criteria to fishing vessels, this paper has done a lot of sample ship calculation and analysis, and it can provide some techniques for design of a new generation of fishing boats.
