Diesel spray has great influence on combustion performance. Optimizing the spray atomization is favorable to improve fuel economy and emission. In order to study free spray and spray wall impinging characteristics of V-type intersecting hole nozzle, an experimental study was conducted on a self-built spray visualization test bench. Schlieren and shadow method had been applied.In free spray experiment, three intersecting hole nozzles with different intersecting angles and one single hole nozzle was tested under different injection pressure, temperature and environment pressure by used of shadow method. The experimental results showed that, as the intersecting angle increased, spray penetration of intersecting hole nozzle grew shorter and spray cone angle grew larger. Intersecting hole nozzle had better evaporation performence,15° intersecting hole nozzle had longest spray penetration,25° intersecting hole nozzle had shortest spray penetration and largest spray cone angle, single hole nozzle had least spray cone angle. Improving the injection pressure, intersecting hole nozzle lost more momentum, especially larger intersecting angle hole nozzle. Intersecting hole nozzle was more sensitive to temperature and environment pressure than single hole nozzle, and had wider spray range and vapor extension, especially larger intersecting angle hole nozzle.In spray wall impinging experiment, two intersecting hole nozzles with different intersecting angles and one single hole nozzle was tested under different injection pressure, impinging distance and impinging angles with 760K temperature and 4MPa environment pressure by used of schlieren method. The experimental results showed that after spray collision, the extension distance and height of single hole nozzle spray was longer than the spray of intersecting hole nozzle, the extension distance and height of 15° intersecting hole nozzle spray was longer than 25° intersecting hole nozzle spray. As injection pressure and impinging distance increased and impinging angle decreased, spray extension distance and impinging height increased. Single hole nozzle increased more than intersecting hole nozzle,15° intersecting hole nozzle increased more than 25°intersecting hole nozzle. Prophase of 15°intersecting hole nozzle spray was similar with single hole nozzle, anaphase of 15° intersecting hole nozzle spray showed better evaporation performance. Spray of 25° intersecting hole nozzle showed the best performance of evaporation and extension.
